23-YEAR-OLD CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GOLDEN BOOT JOINS MONTREAL
Montreal, January 28, 2026 - The Montréal Roses are pleased to announce the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Evelyn Badu, an elite talent who joins the club following a breakout career marked by continental honours and experience across some of Europe’s top leagues.
At 23, Badu is one of Africa’s most decorated young players. In 2022, she became the first player in history to win both the Young Player of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year awards at the annual Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards - the continent’s highest individual honours. Those accolades followed her spectacular performance at the inaugural 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League, where she scored 5 goals to claim the Golden Boot and lead her club, Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies, to the final.
Her journey took her to Europe, where she played in Norway with Avaldsnes IL and Molde FK, as well as in France’s top division with FC Fleury 91. Versatile, she can play as an attacking midfielder or on the wing, bringing creativity, vision, and a goal-scoring instinct.
On the international stage, Badu has represented Ghana in major African competitions, including the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations where the Black Queens claimed the bronze medal. She has earned 17 caps and scored 10 goals for her national team.
“Evelyn possesses a rare combination of technical quality and high-level experience,” said Marinette Pichon, sporting director of the Roses. “She’s shined on the African continent, competed in demanding European leagues, and knows how to score in crucial moments. She’s an intelligent player who reads the game, creates chances, and is capable of finding the right space for the final pass or finishing with precision. She’s going to add another dimension to our attack and embody that winning mentality we’re building.”
“Joining the Montréal Roses is an opportunity I’ve been looking for,” said Badu. “Professional women’s soccer in North America is experiencing exceptional growth, and the Northern Super League is part of that movement. Montreal is building something ambitious, and I want to be part of it. I’m eager to contribute on the field and help this team reach new heights.”
With Badu’s arrival, the Roses continue building a squad aiming to compete for the NSL championship in 2026. The club now has 22 players committed for the upcoming season, combining local talent with international experience.
