Montreal, May 18, 2025 — The Montréal Roses suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday, falling 1-0 to Calgary Wild FC at McMahon Stadium. In a fiercely competitive and physical encounter, the Roses held strong for most of the match but ultimately conceded the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.

Calgary displayed disciplined defensive organization, posing a significant tactical challenge for the Roses. Lacking offensive solutions, Montreal struggled to break through and failed to generate any clear-cut scoring chances. Most of their efforts came from distance and posed little threat to the opposing goalkeeper.

Second-half substitutions brought fresh energy to the pitch: Jodi Smith replaced Lara Schenk in the 62nd minute, followed by Lorie Thibault coming on for Tanya Boychuk in the 75th. Despite these changes, Calgary managed to break through late in the match and secure the victory.

Final score: 1-0 in favour of Calgary Wild FC

The result ends the Roses’ four-game unbeaten run in what was a tightly contested and physical matchup where the smallest details proved decisive.

The team now shifts its focus to bouncing back at home. Their next match takes place Wednesday, May 22nd, at Stade Boréale, where they will face AFC Toronto at 7:00 PM. All matches this season are broadcast on RDS, TSN, Radio-Canada, and CBC. To support the team and discover the newly opened Stade Boréale, fans can purchase tickets at www.rosesmtl.ca.

POST-MATCH QUOTE

“We had a strong start in the first 20 minutes, but Calgary caused us problems with their wide attacking structure, and we took too long to adjust. Our second half was better, but we lacked sharpness in the final third.”

— Robert Rositoiu, Head Coach, Montréal Roses
