THE AMERICAN, A 2021 NWSL CHAMPION, JOINS THE CLUB FOR THE FINAL STRETCH OF THE SEASON

The Montréal Roses are proud to announce the signing of American defender Anna Heilferty.

A native of Falls Church, Virginia, Heilferty arrives in Montreal after a season with Tampa Bay Sun FC of the USL Super League. An outside back who can also play in midfield, she brings more than five seasons of professional experience in North America to the group.

Her professional career began in 2021, when she was selected 19th overall in the NWSL Draft by the Washington Spirit, becoming the first player in Boston University history to be drafted into the league. She spent four seasons with the Spirit, appearing in 57 matches across all competitions, and was part of the 2021 NWSL championship squad. She went on to play for the Houston Dash in 2025 before joining Tampa Bay Sun FC.

Internationally, Heilferty has represented the United States at the under-18 and under-23 levels.

Her commitment extends well beyond the pitch. For two years, she served as a sustainability ambassador with the District of Columbia’s environmental agency, the Department of Energy and Environment, building programming that connected soccer and environmental education within the community. In 2024, the Washington Spirit named her their nominee for the Lauren Holiday Impact Award, which recognizes community service and leadership.

“It’s a really exciting time to join the Roses for their final push of the season,” said Heilferty. “The organization has been putting on a dominant display of their quality in the NSL. I’m looking forward to embracing the culture and mentality of this team as I start this new chapter in Montreal as a Rose.”

Heilferty joins the Roses as the team enters one of the most important stretch of its season. First in the Northern Super League standings on 37 points, Montreal hold a four-point lead over Ottawa Rapid FC with six matches remaining in the regular season.
