Three weeks after their last home match, the Roses are finally back at Stade Boréale. Montreal hosts Calgary Wild FC on Sunday, the first of four straight home matches. The Roses (4-1-2, 14 points) remain near the top of the table but arrive on a two-game winless run, eager to get back on track in front of their supporters.
Saturday in Toronto, the Roses dug out a point in the dying seconds. Trailing since the 68th minute, they were level when Lisa Pechersky struck in the 94th for a 1-1 draw. The match also delivered a piece of history : Marilou Harvey, 16, came on in the 73rd minute to become the youngest player ever to appear for the club.
Up front, Elyse Bennett still leads the NSL with five goals, with Tanya Boychuk second on four. Pechersky tops the league for assists and chipped in a goal when it mattered most, while Anna Karpenko keeps piling up saves, 23 on the season.
The opponent
The Roses know Calgary well, this is already the third meeting between the clubs this season. The first two were played in Calgary, and this is the first time the Wild visit Stade Boréale.
The opener went Montreal’s way: a 2-0 win on opening day in Calgary, on an Elyse Bennett brace. The second was far more dramatic. Ahead in the 90th minute through Claire Monyard, the Roses watched Calgary answer immediately in stoppage time for a 2-2 draw. A point let slip that still stings.
What to watch
The closing minutes. Both of the Roses’ last two results were decided late. Seeing matches out cleanly is the one box this group will want to tick at home.
Coming home should help the attack, too. Bennett returns to a ground where she’s used to scoring, and fans at Stade Boréale can lift a Montreal side eager for a victory.
