ROSES OPEN THEIR W CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP RUN ON AUGUST 12

Canada Soccer launched today the inaugural W Canadian Championship, a brand-new national competition. The Montréal Roses will begin their run on August 12 at 6 p.m., hosting Simcoe County Rovers FC at Stade Boréale. All tickets will be $15, with a general on-sale on Monday, July 20 at en.rosesmtl.ca/tickets

Eight clubs take part in this first edition, across three knockout rounds: the six Northern Super League clubs and two clubs from Premier Soccer Leagues Canada, namely Simcoe County Rovers FC (Ontario Premier League) and CS Mont-Royal Outremont (LS Pro QC).

The quarterfinals run from August to October 2026. The semifinals and final follow in the first half of 2027, with a draw early in the year to determine the matchups and hosts.

There is more at stake than a national title. The champion earns Canada’s place in the 2027 Concacaf W Champions Cup. The winner of that competition, in October 2027, qualifies for the first edition of the  FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028.

One match, one winner

All seven matches in the competition are knockout ties. On August 12, it will be settled in a single evening: if the sides are level after 90 minutes, extra time follows, then a penalty shootout if needed. The winner moves on; the other is out.
