The Montréal Roses head to Calgary on Friday to face the Wild for the fourth time this season. Second in the table with 21 points, the Roses arrive on the back of two straight wins and in pursuit of Ottawa Rapid FC, who lead the league with 25. Kickoff is at 9:00 p.m. ET, live on RDS, TSN+, ESPN+ and NSL Youtube.
Montreal closed out their four-match home stretch with a 1-0 win over Halifax Tides FC last Sunday, settled by a penalty from Montrealer Chloe Minas. It was a tight result against one of the league’s best defences, and a fourth clean sheet for Anna Karpenko.
The opponent
Calgary Wild FC sit bottom of the table with two points, from no wins, eight losses and two draws in ten matches. But those two points both came against the Roses.
The clubs have already met three times this season, and Montreal have won just once: 2-0 at McMahon Stadium on April 25, in the snow. The two meetings since ended level, 2-2 in Calgary on May 16, then 1-1 at Stade Boréale on June 21.
On paper, the gap remains wide. The Roses have the league’s second-best attack with 22 goals, behind Ottawa (26), and have conceded just 11, a mark bettered only by Toronto and Halifax (10 apiece). Calgary have scored eight goals in ten matches, the lowest total in the league, and carry the worst goal differential in the competition at -20.
What to watch

Chloe Minas. The Montrealer scored the winner against Halifax, her first of the season.
Chasing Ottawa. Four points separate the Roses from top spot.
