MATCH REPORT:
HALIFAX TIDES 1 – 1 MONTREAL ROSES

Montreal, August 2, 2025 – On the road for Week 15 of the Northern Super League, the Montreal Roses earned a 1-1 draw against the Halifax Tides at Wanderers Grounds. The result allows the Roses to stay firmly in the race for the top of the standings, now just one point behind league leaders Toronto.

A STRONG START, A TENSE FINISH

Once again, the Roses proved they know how to start strong. In just the 4th minute, the unstoppable Latifah Abdu netted her 6th goal of the season off a precise assist from Tanya Boychuk, solidifying her spot among the league’s top scorers.

Montreal dominated the first half with high pressing and strong ball control. The second half proved more challenging, with several tactical changes introducing fresh legs — including Olivia Mbala, who made her SLN debut.

In the 73rd minute, a defensive miscommunication allowed Halifax’s Amanda Allen to equalize, despite another solid outing from goalkeeper Anna Karpenko. The Roses pushed late for a winner, but couldn’t convert their chances.

STATS THAT BACK IT UP

The Roses controlled 60% possession and outpassed their opponents, sticking to their identity of collective ball movement and technical precision. Defensively, they continue to grow, with key players like Jodi Smith and Mégane Sauvé ranking among the league’s top ball-winners.

STILL EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR

With a point gained on the road, Roses FC holds onto second place in the NSL standings, now just one point shy of Toronto. The fight for first place remains wide open — every match counts.

POST-MATCH COMMENTS

“There’s a lot of positives to take away, especially how we asserted our game early and continued to reflect our identity on the field. We pressed high and built well in the first half. Halifax adjusted after the break, and we were a bit out of sync and lacked finishing in the final third. But this team is showing great energy and a clear will to succeed. That’s what we’ll keep building on.”
— Robert Rositoiu, Head Coach, Montreal Roses
