The Montréal Roses continue their home stretch on Saturday, welcoming Vancouver Rise FC, the reigning Northern Super League champions It’s the third of four straight matches at Stade Boréale, and a chance for Montreal to get back to winning in front of their supporters.

Last Saturday, the Roses had the better of the play and the chances against Ottawa but fell 2-1, with Elyse Bennett converting a late penalty, her sixth goal of the season, which keeps her atop the NSL scoring chart.

The opponent

Vancouver is no ordinary visitor. The reigning champions have already split the season series with the Roses: Montreal won a commanding 4-0 in the home opener on May 2, before Vancouver answered with a 3-2 win on May 30 that handed the Roses their first loss of the season.

It’s an opponent the Roses know well, and one they’ll be eager to set the record straight against. Beating the champions would be the best possible way to turn things around.

What to watch

The finishing. Over the last few matches, the Roses have created plenty without the reward. Turning control into goals is the real question in this one.

Elyse Bennett. Atop the NSL scoring chart, she remains the Roses’ main attacking threat and will look to make the difference by opening the scoring.

The home crowd. A well-filled Stade Boréale can give the lift a team needs when it’s chasing a return to the win column.
