A goalkeeper from Alma, Anne-Marie Laroche is making her professional debut with the Montréal Roses, a childhood dream come true. This 24-year-old athlete’s career has been marked by perseverance to overcome personal and professional challenges to achieve her goals.
With six national medals to her credit, including a gold won at college and university championships, Anne-Marie has proven her worth on the pitch. After being cut from provincial teams, she stood out in a Sport-Étude program in Quebec City, as she honed her skills and forged a winning attitude.
Off the field, Anne-Marie works as a clinical nurse in child psychiatry, where she accompanies youngsters through their mental health challenges, an admirable example of resilience and dedication.
Her pre-game rituals, such as wearing her left sock inside out, or starting each warm-up with a dive to the right, reflects her attention to detail and her passion for her sport.
“Anne-Marie is quick on the ground, solid on the ball, a real boss in her zone, with the ability to make both short and long throws. She made a very strong impression: we already knew her, but we rediscovered her in a whole new light. It was obvious to us that she had to be part of the Montréal Roses. She is another treasure from the tryouts that we are going to develop to take her as high as possible.”
Height: 5 feet 7 inches Birthday: May 15, 2000 (24) Place of Birth: London, Ontario Position: Winger Preferred Foot: Right Current Team: Montréal Roses (Canada) Current Team: Miami Athletic Club
Originally from London, Ontario, Claire Monyard, a 24-year-old winger, joins the Montréal Roses for her first professional season. Known for her speed and creativity on the pitch, she distinguished herself as a teenager by helping her team win the League 1 Ontario title at just 16.
However, her journey has had its share of obstacles. An injury in her final year of university tested her resilience. After a period of recovery, Claire has returned stronger, with a renewed determination to excel.
Outside of soccer, Claire is an accomplished researcher, having contributed to work on thymoquinone and DNA published in the Biophysical Journal. A biochemistry graduate, she is planning a career in anesthesiology while continuing to evolve on the pitch. Passionate about music and cooking, she also finds inspiration from Andrés Iniesta, whose technique and elegance continue to influence her game.
“Claire arrived with a big smile on her face, thrilled to show what she could do. We were struck by her versatility: she can play in several positions such as right or left forward, winger, or even centre-back. But beyond her technical and tactical qualities, her enormous generosity towards her teammates is what really won us over. We’re delighted to welcome her among us.”
