The Montréal Roses open their final West Coast road trip of the regular season this Saturday, September 19, with an opportunity to officially lock in their place in the postseason. Montreal takes on Vancouver Rise FC at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.

The scenario is straightforward. A win against Vancouver brings Montreal to 41 points, a total neither the Halifax Tides nor the Calgary Wild can reach before the end of the regular season. The Roses can also secure their playoff berth with a draw or a loss, provided Halifax does not defeat AFC Toronto this weekend. 

With five matches remaining in the regular season, Montreal sits atop the Northern Super League standings with 38 points. 

Matching Firepower, Contrasting Seasons

Vancouver’s 8-10-2 record does not tell the full story. Rise FC features one of the most potent attacks in the league, tied with Montreal at 38 goals scored. Their position in the table stems largely from a defensive record that has seen them concede 42 goals. 

Vancouver remains a dangerous opponent capable of dominant performances. Last week, the Rise earned a 4-0 victory over second-place Ottawa Rapid FC. Across their last two matches against Ottawa, Vancouver has scored nine goals.

Matches between Montreal and Vancouver have produced plenty of offense this year. The four previous meetings have generated 22 total goals without a single draw. In their last visit to Swangard Stadium on July 29, the Roses came back twice to secure a 4-3 victory. 

Golden Boot Race Highlights Key Matchups

Saturday’s fixture features a head-to-head meeting between the league’s top two goalscorers. Elyse Bennett leads the Montreal attack with 11 goals in 20 starts. Vancouver forward Jessica De Filippo matches that tally with 11 goals of her own, alongside four assists. 

The match also marks a return to Burnaby for Lisa Pechersky. The Roses midfielder, who won the 2025 NSL title with Vancouver, has recorded four goals and four assists this season while contributing 53 tackles defensively. She matches up against Vancouver’s Anna Bout, who is also tied for second in the league with four assists. 

Defensively, co-captain Mégane Sauvé leads Montreal with 56 tackles. In goal, Anna Karpenko remains the only goalkeeper in the Northern Super League to play every minute of her team’s campaign. Through 1,800 minutes, Karpenko has registered seven clean sheets and made 58 saves. 

Dominant Away Form

A defining characteristic of Montreal’s season has been its form away from home. Under interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel, the Roses remain undefeated on the road this season.

In nine away matches, Montreal has recorded seven wins and two draws, earning 23 out of a possible 27 points. The Roses have scored 19 goals and conceded just nine on the road, keeping four clean sheets in the process.
