ROSES MIDFIELDER TO FACE MAURITIUS IN OLYMPIC QUALIFYING SERIES
Montréal Roses midfielder Evelyn Badu has been named to the Ghana Senior Women’s National Team roster for the upcoming October FIFA international window. The Black Queens are set to kick off their qualifying campaign for the LA28 Olympic Games with a two-legged series against Mauritius. Badu will join the national team camp from October 4 to 14.
Ranked third on the African continent, the Black Queens earned a BYE into the second round of CAF Olympic qualifying. However, the path to Los Angeles remains rigorous, with three subsequent knockout rounds ahead as 35 nations battle for just two African spots at the Olympic tournament.
“Seeing Evelyn represent Gahan in this important step toward the Olympic Games is a fantastic reflection of her hard work and talent,” said Marinette Pichon, Sporting Director of the Montréal Roses. “Her energy, creativity, and clutch performances since arriving in Montreal speak to her immense quality. We are thrilled to see her shine both for our club and with the Black Queens.”
Ghana will take on Mauritius in a two-match series:
- Thursday, October 8: Mauritius vs Ghana (in Saint Pierre, Mauritius)
- Tuesday, October 13: Ghana vs Mauritius (in Accra, Ghana)
Badu enters international duty in fine form. Recently in Vancouver, the 24-year-old scored a 93rd-minute equalizer to preserve Montreal’s unbeaten streak. Since joining the Roses, Badu has recorded five goals and two assists in only six starts, despite missing six weeks this summer to participate in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she scored the decisive goal to send Ghana into the quarterfinals.
Upon her return from international duty, Badu and the Roses will enter the final stretch of the regular season in pursuit of the Supporters’ Shield. Montreal will play its final two fixtures against Halifax Tides FC on Saturday, October 17 in Nova Scotia, before closing out the regular season at Stade Boréale on Friday, October 23 at 7:00 PM against Ottawa Rapid FC. Tickets for the final regular-season home match are available starting at $28 at en.rosesmtl.ca/tickets.
